How can massage therapy help you?

A client comes to us for a stiff neck, which also extends to the trapezius, shoulder blades, shoulder and left elbow, as well as numbness in the forearm and fingers. Thanks to four osteopathic treatments, she feels less muscular tension in the neck and scapular chain following mobilizations of the cranio-cervical, cervico-dorsal region, the clavicles and the ligamentary attachments of the supporting structures of the heart and lungs on the thorax.

However, discomfort in the left shoulder persists due to muscle tension in the rotator cuff. To rectify this situation, the patient was referred to acupuncture, where she received three treatments. The first two appointments managed to improve the situation, but after the third visit, some heaviness in her left arm remained.

To try to reduce this discomfort in the left shoulder, massage therapy is the chosen treatment. According to our massage therapist’s assessment, tension on the right side of the thorax associated with left scapulo-humeral muscle fatigue is still present.

During the two meetings, our massage therapist favours a global back massage by concentrating on the trapezius, rhomboids, squares of the lumbar vertebrae and lumbar vertebrae. The manoeuvres are performed in a slow manner, with the aim of relieving the muscles, both superficial and deep, to ensure muscle relaxation, flexibility and drainage of the tissues through the use of various manoeuvres, including sliding pressure and lifting the scapula.

In a second step, our massage therapist focused on the sore spots of the left shoulder using kneading and drainage techniques, allowing for the elimination of toxins and the activation of circulation. In addition, a few treads to clear the nerve pathways, as well as a series of arm stretches to conclude the treatment sessions, and our client is completely back on her feet.

The latter then performs the appropriate exercises for the mobility of her arm, and what better way to let go of her daily routine than by relaxing for a few moments!
