Acupuncture and energy diagnosis
Here is a young mother consulting with her three year old son who “catches everything”: recurring flu, tonsillitis, gastroenteritis, etc.
In this newsletter, we are going to talk about traditional Chinese medicine and more specifically about acupuncture. Our acupuncturist, who has over 24 years of experience, covers not only SAAQ and CSST cases, but also clients in private practice.
One of the particularities of traditional Chinese medicine is in the area of diagnosis. Indeed, according to the signs and symptoms that the client reports, the acupuncturist makes an energetic diagnosis.
What do we mean by energy diagnosis? Acupuncturists identify an energetic excess or emptiness of viscera and/or organs such as the heart-intestine, the liver, the spleen-pancreas complex, the lungs or even the kidneys.
What observations help us make this diagnosis? Symptoms of high temperature, a flushed complexion, restlessness and anger, difficult digestion, temporal headaches and grumpiness are associated with excess liver energy. On the other hand, signs of low energy in the liver can be seen in general fatigue, a pale complexion and a depressed mood.
In addition, an energy vacuum in the kidneys would result in the following symptoms: night-time temperature, pale complexion, amorphous and whining child. A sign of excess energy in the kidneys is especially characterized by a bossy character and heat under the feet.
In our case, our 3 year old patient is rather amorphous, has a pale complexion, often has diarrhea, has little appetite and sleeps a lot. These signs look very much like a liver or kidney problem, but thanks to these observations, they point to an energetic void in the spleen-pancreas complex. In fact, diarrhea and loss of appetite are two very important signs of an energy vacuum in the spleen and pancreas.
Sylvain Trudel, our acupuncturist, explains that he is always surprised and delighted to see the effects that the insertion of fine needles (uni-service) or the use of a soft laser beam can produce on his patients.
With a soft laser, specific points are targeted to tone up the energy of this complex. Also, there are other points that we target to tonify the immune system such as points along the liver or kidney meridians among others.
As a general rule, four acupuncture treatments are sufficient to rebalance the energy of children. In this particular case, we went as far as seven treatments to get him healthy. Now, this young toddler has a few preventative visits throughout the year, one or two each time.
For more than two years now, this young boy has not used antibiotics as he used to, even though he occasionally catches a cold.
